Location:

The trilobites are located at an old marble quarry, southeast of Cadiz (Chambless), California. Cadiz is located approximately 11 miles east of Amboy, on old route 66.

History:

This area has been known as a fossil area since at least the 1920's. In 1930, John C. Hozzard found a new species of trilobite here that was given the name Pardumias mohavensis. The trilobites are from the Cambrian geological period (see Geologic Time Scale) which was approximately 500 to 600 million years ago. The fossils are found in the shale that can be found near the marble quarry. Years ago the fossils were quite plentiful but many people have been digging here since then and the fossils are much more difficult to find now.
