Location: Approximately 51 miles east of Fallon on Hwy 50, turnoff on Hwy 722 to Eastgate (about 2.8 miles east of Middlegate). At roughly 7 miles down 722 Buffalo Creek road turns off to the right. This road is graded gravel. Buffalo Canyon road is about 5 miles down this road. Here, it turns east. It is a small, dirt road and the fossil deposit can be seen to the left of this road. There is a small place to park about .1 miles down this road on the left. Park here and walk up to the bed.

GPS: Park at 39º 12.39' x 117º 48.86' Altitude approximately 5883'.

Buffalo Canyon Fossil bed

Description: This is a deposit of fossilized leaves from 10 million years ago. The bed includes leaves from oak trees along with sycamore, ash, elm, and others. The fossils can be found throughout the shale but the most plentiful specimens will be found in the smaller, blueish deposit seen in the picture below.
