History: Fletcher was originally named six mile station and provided a good stopping place for stages servicing the smaller mining camps found in the area during the 1860's. Eventually Fletcher became the stage station for travel bound for connection to the Carson and Colorado railhead located at Hawthorne in 1881. This traffic would originate as far away as Bodie, California. The station also operated a post office at varying times during the years between 1883 and 1918 the office closing on November 30th. of that year. The site now is a beautiful oasis in this mountainous country. There is a small building with many trees, a small stream, and even a picnic table. It is strategically located at the junction of roads leading through the mountains to such places as Lucky Boy, Aurora, and Sonoma.
